Bulimia Rehab

At the Clifton Clinic we have the professionals to guide and help you through the process of bulimia rehab.

Bulimia is a severe eating disorder that can be fatal if left untreated. Individuals who suffer with bulimia characteristically "binge," consuming large amounts of food in a very short period of time, and instantaneously ridding their bodies of the food by self-inducing vomiting (this is known as purging) or abusing laxatives and other slimming medications. If left untreated, bulimia can lead to serious and in some cases life-threatening problems, such as depression, anxiety disorders, heart damage, kidney damage, digestive system malfunction and dental problems.

Individuals with bulimia are generally preoccupied with thoughts of food or cravings and have an extreme fear of gaining weight. They may have a distorted view of their body and think they are larger in shape than they actually are.

It is common for individuals with bulimia to be feeling depressed and anxious, find concentrating difficult, and have feelings of guilt and shame about their eating habits.

At the Clifton Clinic we offer those in need of bulimia rehab, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), this can help those suffering to learn healthier ways of thinking about food and rebuild their self-esteem. We also offer therapy which allows them to discuss their relationships with other people. Rebuilding these relationships may stop them turning to food for emotional support.
